Wedding Explosion box

Shubh Vivah- Wedding Explosion Box - Asha Jain

Hello everyone, this is design team member Asha Jain here today with some lovely inspiration.

Firstly, this is my first post as DT for Swati Craft Corner, and I’m so excited. And to mark this as a special one, I created a beautiful explosion box that doubles up as a wedding invite to special ones, or a wedding gift to the newly married couple. This explosion box has a shaker element on the top, a wedding scene in the center, and an envelope and a box on the flaps.

For today’s inspiration, I have used the paper pack SHUBH VIVAH from SWATI SELECT COLLECTION. The collection kit comes with a 12*12 paper pack with 24 sheets, 6*6 paper pack with 24 sheets, and a set of 2 coordinating element sheets. The papers are beautifully designed to suit the Indian wedding scenario, with vibrant hues and matching elements. The papers come with a matte finish, and are quite sturdy. Also, mirror sheets are available with Swati, and they add a beautiful charm to the projects. I have a small pictorial tutorial to share, and hope I can inspire you to create one on your own.

So enough talking, let’s have a look at the project.

v    The center piece.

v    The box and envelope on the flaps.

Steps for the tutorial

1.                Cut the cardstock to 6*6inch (4 pieces) and 7*7 (1 piece).

Score the 7inch piece at ½ inch on all four sides. These will be the flaps to attach the four sides to the base.

 2.    Paste all the four 6*6 inch pieces onto the 7*7inch base.

3.                Cut a strip of cardstock measuring 1.5*6inch. Score it at 3/4th inch This will be the strip to attach the two flaps together for the center piece.

4.                Attach the strip onto two sides of the base to create a wall. Cut patterned papers of desired design ( cut them 0.1inch lesser than your base , this will show a thin border of your base beneath the pattern paper.

5.                Once all the flaps are pasted with pattern paper, fussy cut elements from the element sheet and create the scene as desired. I’m creating a wedding scene, hence using images that match. To prop the elements and give them a 3d look, I create a triangular base. For this, use a cardstock with width less than the element, and divide it into 4 parts as shown, then stick the smaller part to the bigger one to create a triangle. You can then  use it to prop up the elements to a standing position.

6.                Now let’s create the lid. For this I’ve used a cardstock measuring 9 1/8th*9 1/8th inch . 1 ½ inch will be the height of the lid, and the 1/8th extra to help in easy closure of the box.

Score the cardstock at 1 ½ and 7 5/8 on both sides.

7.                Cut one side of each flap as shown

8.                Stick the flaps onto each adjoining side to create the lid. Once done, you can use pattern papers to cover the lid.

For my project I have used a shaker element on the lid, created a box using the lid method for one side of the open flap and an envelope on the other side. These are additional ways to add details to your projects.

Hope you enjoyed my tutorial. If you have any doubts or queries, you can definitely get in touch.

A video of the walkthrough of the explosion box will be soon uploaded on the YouTube channel.

Thanks,

Asha  Jain
